Jon Olsen after his record-breaking run – photo by Jon Olsen

A couple of weeks ago, Jon Olsen set a new 100 mile American record – 11 hours and 59 minutes! That is just an incredible time! What makes it even more incredible to me is that he did it on an indoor track – over 400 laps!

Jon Olsenbroke the record of 12:12 previously held by Rae Clark. The world record is 11:28 held by Oleg Kharitonov. These numbers are very impressive by themselves but when you break down the average pace ran by Jon Olsen for 12 hours, it becomes jaw-dropping. To read his account of the effort, check this post here.

Jon averaged 7 minutes and 11 seconds for 12 hours! Think about that pace for a minute – that is significantly faster than most people in America can hold for one marathon. He held the pace for almost 4 marathons! His last marathon was a 3:10. Congratulations, Mr. Olsen, on an unbelievable run and accomplishment. I only have one question – what in the world do your tempo workouts look like? 🙂
